How do you cultivate self discipline

Jul 21, 2022

Whenever I do a poll on my Instagram stories @coachroseanne one question that keeps coming up is

HOW DO I CULTIVATE SELF-DISCIPLINE?

One book I have read that has helped me in my business and wellness journey is Atomic Habits by James Clear. It's a book that is filled with simple strategies that help me focus on what is important without losing my mind along the way due to the simple strategies

shared.

Here are a few tips that can help you in your quest to cultivate seld discipline.

First, it's important to be self-aware. Self-awareness is the most important tool you can have under your belt as you begin to operate from a place of power. When you are operating from a place of power you are able to make the best choices for yourself.

And this aspect of self-awareness takes time, takes being patient with yourself, and takes a certain kind of person to decide you are willing to understand yourself.
As you begin to understand yourself you are now able to make the necessary changes.

Ultimately the goal is to create long-term sustainable habits that will yield you the results you desire without going to extremes of dieting, restricting yourself, etc. It is about focusing on the long-term gains vs the immediate gratification. And this comes with strategy.

SO WHAT DO YOU DO

1. Know your strengths and your weaknesses.

When you know what you are good at, it's easy to double down on that. The same goes for your weakness. When you know your weakness it is easier to manage the areas you are weak in. For example, I know I need some form of accountability when it comes to working out. And so for me having an accountability partner is something that matters to me so that I can show up at my workout session regularly.

2. Remove Temptations

Your environment matters. Whatever is in your environment will affect your focus, your attention, and your actions. For instance, when I  was losing fat, one of the things I needed to do was focus on cleaning my environment. Specifically removing cookies, mandazi, and cakes) and after cleaning my environment for over 15 years, I am now able to eat these foods in moderation.

3. Set clear and specific goals. I did a whole training that my clients have benefited from greatly here and it shows you how to set clear, specific goals using the SMART method. What is the Specific goal you want to achieve? Can you measure this goal? Is it attainable and realistic within the timeframe you have allotted? Self-discipline in your fat loss goals is going to need a strategy and this will help. To find out more about setting clear goals you can clear here to purchase my online training about goal setting for just Ksh 1000 or $10

4. Create habits and rituals that you can sustain. This aspect of creating habits and rituals helps you cultivate habits that you can do on a regular basis that eventually become ingrained and as part of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. One habit I have incorporated for years is drinking lemon water every morning upon waking up.

5. Be kind and gentle to yourself. as you are on your fat loss journey, one thing to be mindful of is that the journey is not linear, it's not a straight line. It's marred with ups and downs, roadblocks, bumps, etc and this can cause you to doubt yourself or even feel like giving up. But once you recognize this is part of life, then it will become easier for you to be kind and gentle to yourself.
When you fall, fall forward, when you think you have failed, get up but most importantly. DO NOT GIVE UP.
